6 months old

Vash turns exactly 6 months today… and all was fine and dandy until we noticed a tick on his head. Oh poor boy! I guess Spring is officially here. I used to live in California and for some reason we never had tick problems! Fleas, yes, but ticks, no. I was so shocked and grossed out. They are more creepy, I think. Ugh. Thankfully my sister-in-law was here and she was able to get them off properly…there were two on poor little Vash! One on top of his head and one really near his nose…poor boy! The alcohol was really bothering him, but we had to knock out the ticks and tweezer them out. Then I found one his blankie and not sure if they might have infested our house. UGH! Today is all about cleaning the house, all his blankets and toys and generally just trying to get the icky feeling out. It’s not his fault…I should have thought of preventive medicine earlier on….sigh…let me know if you have any tips on this matter!

Otherwise, I might as well share all the pictures from this past month. So much has happened. He loves hiking in the woods and rolling around in the grass. We got him groomed, shaving off the top hair after his last mud bath, so he looks more Westie and clean now. I think he’s past his teething stage too…finally found some teeth on the ground! He was also in a little local fashion show this month, to help out a friend who owns a pet shop. Then he visited his mom and sister…even though I don’t think they remember him (a bit sad!). I think he’s a happy puppy and growing so fast. I can’t believe he’s already 6 months old…but he’s still our little baby.

    Hi Linda,
Great to see Vash’s update. The fashion show pictures are very cute. Vash’s ear doesn’t look that big any more as his body has grown more in proportion.
As for tick problem, my Westie use “Frontline Plus” and “Sentinel Flavor Tabs” diligently every month. Just the peace of mind that my baby is protected. He is turning one year old next month, we’re giving him a birthday party 
    Hope that helps.

Hi Gina! Hope you enjoyed the photos…and thank you for the tips – we actually got him a similar anti-flea-tick-etc medicine that you drop on his neck…so hopefully that works. I haven’t seen any tablet forms…will have to check that out next time I’m at the pet store!

Sentinel Flavor Tab is a prescription medicine. I don’t know the regulation in Italy but in the US, I get an OK form from the Vet then order online.

    Hi Linda!

Vash has gotten so big! I got Khloe at 6 months and her adult teeth already came in, when I went to the Westie breeder she was the only one sitting in the back while her brothers and sisters were barking and jumping on the fence, and her ears were floppy (she’s 1 now and they still are). Do his teeth just fall out naturally or do you have to pull them out? I give Khloe comfortis for fleas I give it to her once a month along with iverhart for heartworms. I tried frontline and she would roll around on her back to get it off. If you are unable to get the prescription I hope what you found works.

Hi Erin! Time does fly and some people have commented that our Vash looks older with the Westie grooming…but he’s still our cutie! His teeth just fell out naturally…although he was licking and making weird mouth movements when certain teeth were loose. Obviously it must have been weird. I think if there’s loose teeth and it doesn’t fall out naturally after a while, then you have to take ‘em into the vet to check there’s no infection or something. We will definitely check into the different types of medicines…I’m still not sure what caused his vomiting…so taking it day by day! Thanks for checking out photos of Vash!

Your 6month old Vash is adorable. His hair cut
is really cute. Did u shave him or was he “plucked”?
We have a 6 month old female Miss Bea. What a wild
ride it’s been. She is getting”it” about telling
Us she has to go out. Hurray still hAs a few
baby teeth. Her fangs r still in and I wish they
    would fall out!!

he was first shaved, which was a bad idea! maintenance afterwards becomes a real pain. Now we are on the stripping path, to get his fur back into gear!

      • Charlotte says:

Did u strip him or did a groomer?
Would like to know how to strip. It’s such
a great look. Does it hurt? How do the tolerate
The procedure? Bea is our third Westie and they
all have been groomed with shaver. Would love
to see this puppy in the natural look
        Thanks

We took him to a special groomer and she was quite mad at us for not stripping him since he was young. She said we can try now and see if his fur comes back thicker. It’s a long process… we’ve been at it for 3 months now and we’ve seen a huge difference in the quality of his fur. We use a special tool and do it at home every week. When August comes around we are going to visit the groomer again for a check-in. I don’t think it’s supposed to be painful, athough no dog likes being groomed. We are basically removing the dead hair. Think of it as intensive combing and brushing!

What is the special tool and where would I purchase it?
My last two Westies where al groomed with the clippers.
Would like to strip. Looks so pretty.
          Thanks
          Charlotte

          This is what we use

I would recommend going to a Westie groomer and having them show you “the way”… so you have an idea of how it all works!
